My Textile Journey
A creative exploration through time, memory, & materials
For over ten years, alongside my musical career, I have also dedicated myself to textile creation. This journey began with knitting—a practice that accompanied me on tours with opera companies, helping me find physical balance in a profession where voice and the ephemeral take center stage. Over time, my work evolved toward quilting, an art form that allows me to explore deep themes such as memory, grief, and nature.
I primarily work with vintage textiles, made of natural fibers, which I hand-dye using ancestral natural dyeing techniques. These fabrics carry their own histories, sometimes marked by embroidered initials or carefully hand-stitched repairs. To me, these vintage textiles have a soul I don’t find in new materials. They represent a tangible connection to past lives and the stories they have witnessed.
My approach emphasizes handwork, with great attention to detail—appliqué, quilting, and binding all done by hand. I blend geometric elements inspired by traditional American quilts with more organic, free-flowing, intuitive shapes. My practice is deeply inspired by nature but also serves as a way to process personal experiences of grief and memory.
Whether my pieces hang on walls or serve as functional coverings, I hope they invite reflection while evoking a sense of softness and warmth—both tactile and emotional. Each work is an invitation to an intimate encounter, where the viewer is free to interpret and feel in their own way.
